NEISD's annual Cardboard Boat Races put students' class lessons to the test in a fun competition at Walker Pool at Blossom Athletic Center on Friday, May 8. There were 149 teams who attempted the race - the largest number since the competition was started in 2002.

Two Killed, three critically hurt in head-on crash


Two people were killed and three more were seriously hurt in a head-on collision on the city's North Side late Monday night. The wreck happened at Highway 281 and Sonterra Boulevard at about 11p.m. Investigators say the driver of a red Lexus was speeding southbound on US 281 when he lost control and veered off the road. The car broke through the center cable, then traveled into the northbound lanes where it struck a silver Toyota.

North East ISD will present the annual concert "An Evening With Strings". The concert will be held three consecutive nights and will feature 5th grade strings, middle school orchestras and combined NEISD senior orchestras.
