Bank robbery suspect still on the loose

Police are asking for your help to find a man they say robbed a Stone Oak bank two weeks ago. According to a Crime Stoppers release, the suspect walked into the BB&T bank in the 19100 block of Stone Oak Parkway Feb. 26 while wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans and a gray mask, which partially covered his face.

Officials say the suspect took out a handgun and demanded money from the bank teller, who gave cash to the suspect as the teller feared for her life.

This week, Johnson High School involved its junior and senior students in an interactive program to remind them of the dangers of impaired and distracted driving – just in time for spring break. Shattered Dreams, put together by the PTSA and involving community first responders, stages a fatal drunk driving accident, complete with an emergency rescue and funeral, conducted right in front of the student’s eyes.

Reagan Cheer Competes at 40th Annual UCA Nationals

The Reagan High School Cheerleaders recently competed at Universal Cheerleading Association’s National High School Cheerleading Championship. The competition was held at Disney’s ESPN Sports Complex in Orlando on February 7-9. More than 20,000 athletes from 950 teams participated in the 40th annual competition. Reagan teams reached the  semifinals in the categories of Large Varsity Game Day and Small Junior Varsity Performance. They also competed in the Small Varsity Performance category.

NEISD Girls’ Spirit Clubs Perform Together

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the variety show starring every member of NEISD’s cheerleading, dance and drill teams and pep squads. Varsity, junior varsity, and competition teams from all seven NEISD high schools will perform. Each show debuts with the cheerleading squads introducing their routines perfected for national competition, stunts, and spirit dances. Next, the dance, drill and pep squads will feature their jazz, kick, lyrical, novelty, and pom competition routines.

US 281 Expansion Project: Traffic Switch & Intersection Reconstruction At Evans Road

 

Did you know that, among various other improvements, the ongoing US 281 Segment 1 Expansion Project will feature a new overpass at Evans Road?

The project is in full swing, as many of you know if you frequently drive on this major highway in the San Antonio area. Phase I of the expansion goes from Loop 1604 to just north of Stone Oak Parkway.

In order to get into the nitty gritty of the Evans overpass construction, our contractor will need to put in place the third major traffic switch of the project.

My office has received numerous complaints from District 9 residents regarding high water bills from SAWS. I hear you and share your concerns. In 2017 I voted against the last SAWS rate increase request and have urged SAWS to live within their means without further rate hikes.

This summer a mysterious trend of severe lung illnesses among otherwise healthy young adults began to garner public attention.  By the end of September, 14 people had died, and more than 800 others became seriously ill nationwide.  Unfortunately, teens and young adults have been early adopters of e-cigarettes and vaping products, perhaps partially because flavors like cotton candy, Crème, and marshmallow appeal to youthful tastes.  Endorsements by teen-friendly celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio and Bella Hadid only added to vaping’s appeal.

Torchy's Tacos opens new Stone Oak location October 16.

Torchy's Tacos is bringing its famous green chile queso and craft tacos to the Sonterra area.
According to KSAT.com, the taco chain will open its third restaurant in San Antonio on Oct. 16 at the former Palenque Grill restaurant at 18210 Sonterra Place, which is on the access road of Loop 1604 West between Stone Oak Parkway and Sonterra Place. The 6,723-square-foot space will be the largest location for the taco chain.
