10th Soccer Game Honors Fallen Classmate

10th Soccer Game Honors Fallen Classmate

The 10th annual Ian’s Cup Soccer Match between Reagan and Johnson High Schools will be held on Friday, February 22, at Blossom Athletic Center. The boys’ game will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the girls’ game at 7 p.m.  The Ian’s Cup Trophy will be presented at the conclusion of the girls’ game.  At the end of the games, scholarships are awarded to deserving seniors selected by the Ian’s Foundation board.

The foundation provides scholarships to graduating seniors from both Reagan High School and Johnson High School varsity soccer teams. In addition, four separate $500 donations will be made to local organizations selected by each of the scholarship winners to allow underprivileged individuals the ability to play soccer (including wheelchair soccer), or to provide helmets to those in need.

Ian's Cup is organized by Ian's Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to honor the memory of former student Ian Fincke, who passed away tragically at the age of 16, in October, 2008, as a result of a traumatic brain injury sustained during a skateboarding accident.

Ian’s love for the game of soccer was the inspiration for the Ian’s Cup contest. To date, more than $47,000 in scholarships have been awarded in Ian’s memory, the foundation reports.
