District 9 News from Joe Krier

Joe Krier

Late April is always packed with events that command our attention - namely, Fiesta and the Spurs' play-offs. But please don't lose sight of City elections!

Early Voting started Monday and ends May 2. Election Day is May 6.

We're voting on Mayor, our next District 9 Council member, and the $850-million bond package, which does not require a tax-rate increase. The bond includes funding for the district's first-ever senior services center, new soccer and softball fields and hike-and-bike trails at Steubing Ranch.

Of course, more than half of overall bond funding will go directly to street improvements. In District 9, we have the opportunity for several road projects that improve safety and mobility.

Hardy Oak Boulevard and Huebner Road extension: This $6.3-million project will include building a new road through the Steubing Ranch property, easing serious traffic congestion between two densely populated subdivisions.

Bitters Road, from Savannah Pass to Blanco: This $5-million project will increase the safety of pedestrians and motorists with new sidewalks, traffic lights, and intersection improvements.

If you haven't gotten out to vote, please do - for a stronger San Antonio and a better District 9.
