Reagan announces new head football coach

Ronald Reagan High School announced its new athletic director and head football coach, Lyndon Hamilton, who takes over from David Wetzel, who left to join the coaching staff of Baylor University.  The football field at Reagan was also recently renamed the David Wetzel field in honor of the former coach’s long-term service.

Hamilton has coached fourteen seasons.   He started his coaching career in the Houston area, at Rosenberg Terry, where he remained for seven seasons.  Upon return to San Antonio, Hamilton spent seven years at Roosevelt High School, where he served as Defensive Coordinator, Head Soccer Coach and taught biology and health.

“It is always great to be able to look inside the district and find highly qualified candidates for head coaching positions,” said Kelly Parker, NEISD director of athletics. “Coach Hamilton is very passionate in all he does and is a great fit for Reagan High School. There is no doubt he will continue leading Reagan in being one of the most successful schools in and outside our district in all sports.”

Hamilton told the Reagan Diamondbacker booster club he is passionate about starting fast and finishing strong and looks forward to working with the Reagan community and kids.  He has been married to his wife, D'Laine, for 15 years and has two boys, Drew and Bryce.
