Local Crisis Pregnancy Center Celebrates Anniversary with Move

The Bulverde Spring Branch Pregnancy Care Center marks its first birthday with a move to a larger, more visible location and expanded hours of operation.

The BSBPCC opened its doors Jan. 3, 2017, at its new location at 17080 Highway 46 W., Suite 113, in the Faithville Shopping Center.  The center offers confidential pregnancy testing, limited obstetric sonograms, STD testing and treatment, prenatal vitamins, sexual health education, prenatal and parenting classes, men’s mentoring and material assistance – all at no charge.  Classes and information are available in English and Spanish.

New hours are Tuesdays, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Thursdays and Fridays 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Group parenting classes a.m. in Spanish are held the first Tuesday of the month at 10:30 and in English, the first Friday of the month at 10:30 a.m. – prior registration garners 60 free diapers  and wipes per child.

To mark the occasion, the BSBPCC will hold a Celebration of Life dinner Thursday, March 9, at Bulverde Baptist Church.  For reservations, BSBPCC-Celebration.eventbrite.com

In the short time of the center’s service, and with hours previously limited to 5 or less weekly, 53 clients completed 196 classes; 138 requests for material assistance were fulfilled; 10 pregnancy tests, 10 ultrasounds and 11 STD tests were performed, according to Director of Operations, Kim Barton.   Churches from across the Bulverde/Spring Branch area support the BSBPCC, she said, providing funds, volunteers, publicity and donation of goods – particularly diapers, maternity and children’s clothing, and layette items.

Additionally, staff educated 1400 secondary school students in Smithson Valley about STDs, an epidemic among America’s youth.

Barton quoted an STD rate of 50 percent among sexually active teens and young adults ages 14-21.

Each visitor to the center is treated with love, respect and dignity, Barton added.  “It’s like everything I’ve ever prayed for,” she said.  “God’s putting the pieces in place.”
