National Fruit and Vegetable Month

FVTABLE

Can you smell the crisp fall air? See the leaves changing color? No? Then you, like us, are in South Texas, where it’s still regularly hitting 100+ degrees. While many other parts of the country are in harvest mode, we’re lucky in that our hot-weather-loving produce is still fairly readily available. September is National Fruit and Vegetable month; do you know where yours come from? HEB, right? Maybe Greenlings or Whole Foods? Have you visited one of our many local Farmers’ Markets lately? There you can buy directly from the grower and learn about what grows best in TX every season and what tastes best! This chart from gotexan.org gives a great overview of what great fresh produce you can get when in Texas. Right now it looks like we can get apples, oranges, persimmons, squash, turnips, watermelon and zucchini.
