Sushi Zushi reopens Stone Oak location

Now Open

Sushi Zushi has reopened six more locations, including the one near Stone Oak Parkway and Loop 1604.  The popular eatery was forced to close all eight of its restaurants in July after news of a routine audit of employees’ immigration status caused numerous staff members to flee.

While open with extended business hours, Sushi Zushi is offering only a partial menu at this time.  “We’re not perfect yet, but we’re getting better every day,” the restaurant announced Monday through its Facebook page.  “The new teams we’ve hired are working hard to learn recipes and we’ll be back to the full menu very soon.  Thank you for bearing with us.”

All employers are required to complete and retain an I-9 form for each individual they hire to work in the United States.  This form, which may be reviewed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), requires employers to record the identity and employment eligibility of their staff.

“Sushi Zushi has used its best efforts to comply with I-9 form requirements [and] is working with legal counsel to respond to the government’s audit,” Sushi Zushi’s corporate headquarters announced last month.  “We wish to be clear – there was no raid by the government on our operations. In addition, no employee has been detained by the government or terminated by the company.”
