VIA and Councilwoman Chan to host town hall meeting

via and Councilwoman Chan to host town hall meeting

Councilwoman Chan and VIA will hold a town hall meeting to discuss the proposition for a permanent Park & Ride along U.S. 281 near Loop 1604.

The meeting will take place August 21st from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Parkhills Baptist Church, located at 17747 San Pedro Avenue. The church currently serves as a temporary Park & Ride location along with the nearby Walmart.

Residents will have an opportunity to meet with VIA representatives and offer input on the types of amenities they would like to see in a Park & Ride. This meeting will be the first of three public meetings between August and October before VIA begins the selection process to purchase land for a Park & Ride.

According to a release from North Central Thousand Oaks Neighborhood Association, U.S. 281 North Express Route has averaged over 10,700 passenger trips per month in 2012. Express Bus ridership increased by 8.6 percent along the 281 North corridor during the first quarter of 2012. VIA anticipates more growth in ridership as the permanent Park & Ride comes online. The new facility will feature between 200 and 400 parking spaces, and VIA hopes to tie it directly to future managed lanes along U.S. 281 for rapid access, further helping riders avoid congestion on their daily commutes.

Oral and written comments may be presented at the public meeting. Written comments can also be sent to VIA’s Public Affairs office at 800 West Myrtle, San Antonio, Texas 78212, and they should be postmarked by September 6, 2012. For more information on this project, please call 210-362-2222 or visit the VIA website.
