251 apartments underway on Sonterra Boulevard

Georgia-based Flournoy Companies has begun construction of a 251-unit apartment complex on Sonterra Boulevard. Called Siena on Sonterra, this development will be located next to The Plaza at Concord Park and include six four-story buildings containing one, two and three bedroom units.
This is Flournoy’s fifth development in San Antonio. The company is also behind the Haven properties at Westover Hills, Blanco and the Rim, as well as the 301-unit Arden Park apartment complex currently under construction near Huebner and Eckert roads. Siena on Sonterra will vary slightly from Flournoy’s other properties in that each apartment building will contain an elevator instead of the standard walkup. Flournoy will also sell its stake in the project to its partner, Churchill Forge Properties, once the complex is completed and 95 percent leased.
Flournoy typically keeps its developments, while Churchill Forge has mainly taken over existing properties. However, in this economy, says Flournoy Senior Vice President/Project Manager Brady Blair, “we want to open up to new options. This is new for [Churchill Forge] and a little new for us, but we think it will work well for everybody.”
It’s hardly a gamble building in San Antonio, which has proven to be a good market for Flournoy. And Blair says the Sonterra site is particularly attractive thanks to its close proximity to major thoroughfares, Stone Oak’s growing medical center and restaurants within The Plaza at Concord Park.
“We just really liked the location…kind of urban living in a suburban area.”
Siena’s main entrance with a deceleration lane will be located off of Sonterra Boulevard although no additional traffic lights will be installed. A side gate will also connect directly to The Plaza at Concord’s parking lot.
Siena at Sonterra is expected to open in the third quarter of 2013.
