Thrifty Thursday: June 1 is Free Doughnut Day!

In celebration of National Doughnut Day Friday, June 1, Krispy Kreme is giving away one FREE sugary circle of sweetness to every customer.  Customers may choose any variety and no purchase is necessary. The Krispy Kreme location near Loop 1604 and Hwy 281 is a participating location and will be handing out free doughnuts until midnight Friday.

 

 

Eruption of Parman’s Peak

All ages are invited to the Parman Public Library Saturday, June 2 to hear a tale of four astronauts traveling an unknown world filled with volcanic activity.  Following the story, gather around to witness a real eruption of Parman’s largest volcano!  Event begins at 4 p.m. FREE.

 

 

FREE Movie Passes

The Alamo Drafthouse Stone Oak will offer two FREE movies in June. The 2006 animated flick, “Happy Feet,” will be shown at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16.  Then on Saturday, June 30, the delightful “Nanny McFee” starring Emma Thompson, Colin Firth and Angela Lansbury will be shown at 11:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.  Free admission and all ages welcome during both movies.  The Alamo Drafthouse Stone Oak is located near TPC Parkway and Hwy 281 within the Village at Stone Oak retail center.  Click here for more information. 

 

 

FREE Museum Admission for Military

Between May 28 and September 3, military families can visit more than 1,500 museums across the country for FREE through the Blue Star initiative.   Participating museums in San Antonio include The Alamo, Casa Navarro State Historic Site, Institute of Texan Cultures, McNay Art Museum, San Antonio Museum of Art, Southwest School of Art and Villa Finale. 

 

The Austin Children’s Museum, Blanton Museum of Art, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and Republic of Texas Museum are among eight museums in Austin offering free admission as well.  This offer is good for all active duty military personnel and up to five family members.  A valid military ID is required.

If you build it…

Home Depot offers a FREE Kids Workshop from 9 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of every month at participating stores.  Children 5 to 12 years of age work on a new craft each month and receive a free apron, commemorative pin and certificate of achievement.  On June 2, participants will make an organizer to store collectibles, hair bands, race cars or other items.  Hint, hint:  This will make a great Father’s Day gift! 

 

 

Tails on Trails at Phil Hardberger Park

On Saturday, June 2, Camp Bow Wow and Silver Stars Hoops and Hounds will sponsor a tail-wagging event at Phil Hardberger Park, 13203 Blanco Road.  Tails On Trails will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. in the field behind the playground.  Families and their leashed pups are welcome to participate in a Pooch Parade and contests for the most unique and cutest dogs.  A hike on the trails with the San Antonio Big Dawgs Association will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by demonstrations from military, search and rescue dogs will be held.  This event is open to all, but a suggested donation of $3 per person and $5 per family is suggested.  Proceeds benefit the Phil Hardberger Park Conservancy.    

 

 

FREE SeaWorld Passes

SeaWorld San Antonio is thanking teachers by offering a FREE 2012 Fun Card to all certified K-12 grade school instructors currently teaching at a public or private school.  This Teacher Appreciation Fun Card allows unlimited admission to SeaWorld San Antonio now through the end of the year.

 

Teachers must register for this Fun Card before June 30 and redeem the voucher by Aug. 31.  Registering for the Fun Card is easy.  Just click here.  When teachers redeem their free voucher at SeaWorld’s Guest Services however, they must supply a copy of their Texas teacher certification, a paystub from the last 30 days and a valid Texas I.D. 

 

SeaWorld – through fun and affordable educational programs – has helped schools, teachers, children and adults explore the ocean environment and all its inhabitants. There are countless informal teaching experiences inside the parks including educators, show and exhibit narrations, and interpretive and interactive graphics.
