Winning music video shot at local coffee house
A Stone Oak coffee house provided the backdrop for the winning music video at a statewide competition Tuesday. Local Coffee and its bi-monthly open mic sessions were the basis of a video of San Antonio musician Josh Glenn singing his song, “Vulnerable Minds.”
The video, which was made by first time director and editor Rod Guajardo, won first place at the Texas Music Coalition’s fourth annual Music Video Showcase. Held at the Park North Alamo Drafthouse theater, the showcase invites submissions from artists, students, professional filmmakers or even concertgoers.
In an online explanation of their video, Guajardo and Glenn said they knew they wanted to create a story about a musician staying local and participating in an open mic night, but developed most of the video as they went along. “We had a lot of fun on this, from shooting to the editing,” they write. “We got to meet a lot of great people on the streets of San Antonio and it renewed my faith on how friendly people can be to each other.”
Open for a year now at 700 E. Sonterra Blvd., Local Coffee is an independent coffee house serving press pot coffee, espresso, iced drinks, pastries, bagels and “an abundance of atmosphere.” The coffee house regularly features local artists and musicians and hosts an open mic night from 6 to 9 p.m. every other Friday.
