Lopez Middle School welcomes new mascot

Lopez Mascot

The faculty and student body of Lopez Middle School are feeling even more "pep in their step" with the arrival of their first mascot. The still unnamed panther made his debut at Panther Prowl and the Lopez Marketplace Aug. 18. The staff and students were all smiles and were excited that he was finally here, since they had voted to get a mascot the previous spring.

The Student Involvement Committee, which is sponsoring the mascot, also held tryouts for the position last spring. "We are just so pumped to have something like this at our school," says Katie Stevens, SIC co-sponsor. "We're hoping that having a mascot will not only help our students have more pride, but also increase our staff and student body's sense of identity as a school."

The mascot will attend most athletic and special events.
