Boundaries and buses on tonight’s school board agenda

A decision on where Johnson’s enrollment boundaries will lie and continued discussion of the cancelled Bush Middle School bus route are on tonight’s NEISD board meeting agenda.

The Board of Trustees is expected to make a motion on which of the five possible boundary scenarios will be put in place. Those students living within the designated area will be sent to the new “Lady Bird” Johnson High School when it opens for the 2008-09 school year. The new boundary will affect those currently attending Reagan High School.

The board is also expected to hear a presentation on the issue surrounding cancelled bus service for student living within two miles of Bush Middle School. Concerned over the potential danger for those walking along the busy Evans Road, parents have been petitioning for the board to reinstate the bus route. A cost comparison of transporting all elementary and middle students to and from school versus the current system in which student within two miles walk unless the route is designated as hazardous will be presented. However, the board is not slated to make any decisions on this matter.

The school board meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the North East Education Center, 8961 Tesoro Drive.
