Third public forum to discuss Johnson boundaries canceled

NEISD has decided not to hold a third public meeting to discuss attendance boundaries for the future “Lady Bird” Johnson High school. The meeting had been tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 7, in case the district felt additional public input was needed. Two community forums were held last month to reveal proposals and hear concerns by parents of Reagan High School students, some of which will transfer to the new school east of U.S. 281 near Stone Oak Parkway as early as the 2008-09 school year.
There are five proposed boundary scenarios, designed in the hopes of alleviating Reagan’s overly populated hallways while ensuring Johnson opens with enough students to support clubs and sports teams. Based on the public’s feedback, NEISD will make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees, which is expected to discuss the matter at their Nov. 12 meeting.
Concerns raised at the previous public forums have revolved around Reagan students being forced to enter a new school, the safety of those students who will have to drive across U.S. 281 and whether Johnson will open with 5A status.
Currently, Reagan’s enrollment boundary includes the entire district north of Loop 1604, although Bulverde Creek, Cibolo Canyon and Encino Ridge have been temporarily rezoned to MacArthur High School. Maps of the proposed boundaries are available on the NEISD Web site. Click here for Boundary Descriptions
