Rattler Sports Report – Rattlers can’t get past Smithson Valley. 47-27

The Rattlers did their best to try and overcome some second half mistakes but in the end it was too much of the Rangers for Reagan to handle. The first half was a back-and-forth battle with Marcus Wright leading the way for the Rattlers. The quick footed Wright got a lot of attention from the Ranger defenders, and this opened up some passing lanes for Qb Derrick Walls. Reagan put their first points on the board with a nice play action fake and a 45 yard pass from Walls to Taylor Morris. The Rattler Senior wide out was left alone in the center of the field and walked in for a TD. At the time that score tied the game up at 7-7. Smithson Valley would return the favor and post a Touchdown of their own. It would not take the Rattlers long to answer back as Marcos Wright raced 77 yards to tie the game up again. Smithson Valley and Reagan would trade touchdowns again and then with no time left on the clock Smithson Valley would go into the break up by 3 with a 32 yard Field Goal. The half-time was accented by Reagan honoring the senior spirit and senior band members. The opening kick off of the second half may have been some foreshadowing for the Rattlers. Reagan would cough up the ball on the opening second half kick off and Smithson Valley would recover and make the Rattlers pay. The Rangers would extend their lead to 38-21 before the Rattlers could muster any second half points. After a 66 yard run by Wright along the sideline, the Rattlers would punch the ball over the goal line to make the score 38-27. But in a half full of mistakes the Rattlers would have the extra point attempt blocked and the Smithson Valley Ranger defenders would race 98 yards the other way to gain the two points on their side. The Rangers would take on one more score before the night was over leaving the final 47-27. The Rattlers have a bye week next week before having to get ready for Judson in the final regular season contest. A victory over Judson will assure the Rattlers a post season bid. Good luck to the Rattlers this week as they get ready for the Rockets.

Photos from tonight’s game are posted

On a side note we saw Coach Carter the Rattler head Volleyball coach on the sideline tonight and he let us know that the Rattlers will be playing their first post season Volleyball match on Tuesday Oct 30th vs Seguin. That Match will start at 7:00pm and will be played at Steele High School in Schertz. The Rattler Volleyball team has only one loss in district play this year and was outright district champs.
