Here is your chance to commit to be fit – Get 30 days free at the YMCA

The Mays Family YMCA has something for everyone in Stone Oak.  Maybe you’re already familiar with their youth sports programs for football, baseball or soccer.  But there is much more in store for you at your local YMCA.  Mays Family YMCA opened their 45,000 square foot Family Wellness Center in January of this year.  They offer group classes in Yoga, Latin Dance, Cycling, and Pilates. You’ll also find treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent bikes, free weights and machine weights so you can take circuit training to the next level.

Not sure where to start?  The 12-week program, “Commit to Be Fit” is your answer.  You will meet with a fitness technician who will customize a routine for you based on whether you want to tone, lose weight or gain strength. The YMCA has also recently partnered with the American Diabetes Association.  Learn how the right combination of diet and exercise, can help prevent diabetes or even delay the need for drug therapy for those with diabetes.

“The Y has something to offer to everyone – cradle to grave,” says YMCA Resource Development Director Joye McQueen. “We serve the whole family.”  Mom and Dad can work out knowing their children will enjoy a safe, secured, structured environment.  There is Childwatch for small children 6 weeks to 6 years.  Children from age 7 to 12 can either work out with parents or go to the Kids Center.  Teens are welcome to come to the Wellness Center by themselves.  There are also exercise plans for seniors, so bring grandma and grandpa, too!

In addition to membership at Mays, there is also a citywide membership option which allows access to swimming and racquetball facilities.  And no one is ever turned away from YMCA membership due to lack of funds.  There is a scholarship program for seniors and families who meet certain income requirements.  (so, there goes the “we can’t afford to join a fitness center” excuse!)  And the best news is that there is no contract to fulfill.

YMCAs across the nation provide high-quality, and affordable  daycare to more than 500,000 children and serve nearly 10 million children under the age of 18 through activities such as camping, sports and after school programs. For additional information about these services, call 924-2277.
