Grand opening celebration at H-E-B Plus Saturday

HEB Plus! at Blanco and Loop 1604 Grand Opening

To mark the recent completion of a lengthy construction project, the community is invited to a day-long celebration at the newly remodeled H-E-B Plus near Loop 1604 and Blanco Road.  A former H-E-B, the new 141,000-square-foot store received Plus status with the expansion of its grocery selection and the addition of numerous departments.
Held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, the grand opening will feature the sounds of a 3-string orchestra, samples of mouth-watering Italian cuisine, wine tastings, give-aways and a chance to enter a raffle for a vacation for four to Tuscany, Italy.  Grand opening specials advertised in the store’s recent flyer will also be honored today as well as Saturday.
The construction project marked a company milestone, being the first complete expansion H-E-B has ever done on an existing store.  The new H-E-B Plus now houses 8,000 additional grocery items, an expanded baby section, electronics, hardware, furniture, a drive-thru pharmacy and a larger produce section with more than 900 different items.  The store’s floral department now has delivery vans and can even cater to weddings or other events.  It’s Rooms in Bloom service will even regularly change the flower arrangements in your home.
H-E-B representatives are most excited about the addition of the Café on the Run.  The first placed in San Antonio, the eatery offers the same prepared foods found at H-E-B’s upscale Central Market stores.  Although there is an area to dine in, the café offers prepared meals perfect for take-out or dinner…on the run.
“The store is fantastic,” says general manager Tom Diminture.  “It has everything you need for your home.”
The grand opening was originally slated for January, however last year’s heavy rains delayed construction by a few weeks. H-E-B began as a tiny family shop in Kerrville in 1905. Today, the grocery chain has more than 300 stores and 56,000 employees throughout Texas and Mexico.
The company’s next project in the area will be the construction of the largest H-E-B Plus store in San Antonio near Hwy 281 and Evans Road.
