Kids Don't Work Out, They Play!

 by: Ainsley Laing

The other day, I was working out to music in my living room when my 8 year old daughter and two of her friends came in. Naturally, questions followed: what am I doing, why am I doing it, etc. After a while, the three of them joined in.

Of course, kids being kids, my workout soon expanded into a free movement and dance session. The sound levels increased with lots of laughter and squeals. After a while, the festive atmosphere was too attractive even for grown up friend of mine to resist and she joined in. What started as a workout became a party!

Former State Senator Dies in Fire

Former state Senator Frank Madla perished early Friday morning when a fire consumed his south side home.  The blaze broke out around 2:00 a.m.as the family slept. Early reports indicate that the former Senator attempted to crawl out of a second floor bedroom, but was overcome by smoke. Three other family members were pulled from the home and taken to local hospitals.  His mother-in-law, Mary Cruz, died later at Brook Army Medical Center. Senator Madla's wife and grandaughter are in the intensive care unit at University Hospital.

According to the fire department, there were no smoke detectors in the home. At this time, fire officials say that the fire appears to be accident, and do not suspect foul play.

My granddaughter, Merritt Miles, at five years old, was the inspiration for, 8 Keys to Lasting Love. While reading her a fairy tale I was very disturbed by what I was about to say to her when I read; "And they lived happily ever after."

So, I took the liberty of changing the ending to, "They began the work of creating a very good marriage." I didn't want Merritt thinking, as so many of my clients had, that marriage was so simple, that it just magically happened and couples lived happily every after.

NEISD Parents Not Alone in Class Rank Concerns

Many objections have been raised regarding NEISD's new class rank policy. It didn't take much research to learn that class rank is not just a NEISD issue.  The very concerns voiced at the NEISD Board meeting on November 13, 2006 have been echoed across the country.  Read the following article to see how premier high schools that graduated leaders of our country, including a Nobel Prize winning physicist, have dealt with this controversial issue.
